Hello everybody! Welcome back to E3
(E-cubed). Today’s expression is very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very
useful if you’re driving in America or perhaps you’re at a restaurant or a
coffee shop or maybe just McDonalds. Yeah, the expression is top it off, top it off. Well, the expression
should be top it off, please. Top it off, please. Top it off, top it off. Three
words, top it off. Yeah, top it off. What is it mean to top something off? It means
to fill it to the maximum, fill it completely, fill it up, fill it to the brim.
With brim? No, fill it to the rim with brim, yes. Fill it to the rim with brim.
It’s an old television commercial. Top it off. Fill it up, whatever, lots of
different expressions today. Once again, top it off. So let me explain the it. So
if it’s your coffee cup. Uh, Shane today is an artist. So, this is a coffee cup
and right inside my coffee cup I have this much coffee. So, there is this much
coffee and then the waiter comes by. Sir, would you like some more coffee? And I
could say: top it off, please. Top it off, please. Top it off, please. And then
he’ll put coffee up until the top. Well, of course not to the very top, that
would be dangerous. Another situation would be at the gas station. Your gas
attending says: how much gas would you like, sir? Top it off. Make sure you
have lots of money if you top it off. But then you filled up you gas tank until
it’s full. It’s so easy. It’s such a great expression. Let’s check out the
dialogue:
Dad, can I use your car tonight?
No.
If I wash it and top it off with gas?
No.
But I promise to…
No ifs, ands or buts! No car.

McDonalds. Sim, a expressão é encher até a borda, até o topo. Bem, a expressão
deve ser encher até a borda, por favor. Até a borda, por favor. Encher até a
borda, até o topo. Três palavras, top it
off. Sim, até a borda. O que é que significa encher algo até a borda? Isso
significa que encher ao máximo, encher completamente, preencher, preencher até
a borda. Com borda? Não, preencher até a borda com Brim (Brim é uma marca de café), sim. Encha até a borda com café. É
um comercial de televisão antigo. Encher. Encha, sei lá, um monte de expressões
diferentes hoje. Mais uma vez, até a borda. Então, deixe-me explicar isso.
Então, essa é sua xícara de café. Uh, Shane, hoje, está um artista. Então, essa
é uma xícara de café e bem dentro da minha xícara de café tem essa quantidade
de café. Assim, tem esta quantidade de café e, então, o garçom se aproxima. O
senhor gostaria de mais café? Eu poderia dizer: até a borda, por favor. Encha
até a borda, por favor. Até o topo, por favor. E então ele vai colocar o café
até o topo. Bem, claro que não até derramar, que seria perigoso. Outra situação
